Hays County Commissioners Court

About Commissioners Court

The Hays County Commissioners Court is the governing body of the county. This group oversees the policies and budget for all county-related business and contracts. The Commissioners Court is comprised of five elected officials - a county judge and four commissioners. A county judge administratively oversees commissioners court meetings. The county judge sets the meeting agendas. If two or more commissioners request an item to be placed on the agenda, the county judge will include that item.

Commissioners Court members vote as a body where each court member has one vote per item and no one member has more power than any other member. Commissioners Court members sit on a variety of boards and commissions in which Hays County has a vested interest, e.g., CAMPO, CAPCOG, etc.

Commissioners Court members serve four-year terms and the seats are up for election on a staggered schedule. Each member holds public office hours where constituents can make an appointment to speak with his or her elected representative.

Weekly Hays County Commissioners Court sessions take place at the Hays County Historic Courthouse, located at 111 E. San Antonio St., in San Marcos, Texas. Court meetings begin at 9 a.m. each Tuesday at the County Courthouse unless otherwise posted.

Meetings are live-streamed and archived. Videos are typically available on our website within 24 hours. Meeting minutes are taken by the Hays County Clerk,
